Why a blog?
Why would an electric cooperative have a blog? What could they possibly have to say that would be remotely interesting? They keep the lights on - what's exciting about that? These are questions that I may have asked before I worked in the electric cooperative world. Dating all the way back to 1938 when Tri-County Electric Cooperative was formed (you can read more about that story here!), there's never been a dull moment. When you combine our history with the ever-changing technology and advances being made in nearly every area of our life, almost all that depend on electricity, you end up with a lot of fascinating stories and information. The purpose of this blog is to share our knowledge on relevant topics and increase engagement with the owners of Tri-County Electric Cooperative, our members.
Who is behind the screen?
As the Wizard of Oz once said, "Don't mind the man behind the curtain!". In this case, it's a woman behind the screen, but you get the idea. Lynn Hutchison is the Director of Member Services and has served the membership for 8 years. Certified through the Building Performance Institute as a Building Analyst and Envelope Professional, Lynn performs energy audits and enjoys sharing information about energy conservation, as well as how to keep your home efficient, safe, and comfortable. Lynn and her husband Laramie are Jefferson County natives, and they have 2 boys. At the cooperative, she assists members with residential electric concerns, manages communications including social media, website, and the Hi-Lites newsletter, plans membership events, and oversees the building and grounds of all three TCEC locations. We will also have guest writers on the blog that feature our engineering, operations, IT, billing team, and other professionals in the electric cooperative industry!
What can you expect?
TCEC added its first all-electric vehicle to the fleet in 2022. We're learning about it, and we're going to share our experience with you! You can expect to hear a lot about geothermal, electric appliances that make life easier, ways to decrease use at your home and lower your electric utility bill, advances in technology, and things that impact you as an owner of the cooperative.
